Welcome to Sustainable Trench Technologies
ST2 provide excavated waste recycling services to the utility industry in Northern Ireland.
At ST2 we take the excavated waste produced during excavation on the highway and use it to create a hydraulicly bound material (HBM) which can be used in place of virgin aggregate, traditionally used to reinstate trench excavations.
Our cutting-edge process enables quantifiable reductions in the waste sent to landfill, the provision of Virgin Aggregate, and the total carbon dioxide emitted to the atmosphere.

ST2 was founded in 2021 by James McQuaid & Paul McCullough with the goal of helping the Northern Ireland Utility Industry achieve its goal of Net Zero Carbon.
Our mission is to provide low carbon sustainable waste management solutions to the utility industry in Northern Ireland, and to develop innovative technologies that protect the environment while helping our customers operate more efficiently.
The Benefits of working with Us
At ST2 we accept 100% of the excavated waste traditionally disposed of at landfill sites and use it to make our HBM, which is used in place of virgin aggregate in trench reinstatement.
We provide a one-stop shop for contractors working on Northern Ireland’s utility networks, they can off-load their excavated waste and collect backfill material from the same central location, this enables Grab lorries to work much more efficiently.
Our patented HBM offers superior performance to virgin aggregate, resulting in significant reductions in reinstatement defects, e.g. trench subsidence.
The increased strength of our HBM enables the reduction of thickness of surfacing materials, i.e Hot Rolled Asphalt, Bitmac, etc
